Population Interactions

Updated: Nov 23, 2020

I present to you the Doolly Monkey. The Doolly Monkey is 72.5 m tall and weighs 19 kg. This organism has a combination of Woolly Spider Monkey fur on its head and dog fur throughout its body with a pair of doglegs and a tail. The bottom half of the Doolly Monkey is a cream color, while the top half has a dark gray, almost black color. Part of the body has a fluffy texture which is the dog and the other part has a thicker texture which is the Woolly Spider Monkey. The Doolly Monkey sleeps among treetops which is also where they spend most of their time and search for food. They can sleep during the day or night, it really just depends, and they are relatively laying down when they do. This organism walks on 4 legs and moves by walking just like us humans do, it also lives in relatively large social groups. Some physical adaptations that help feed and protect it are a very good sense of smell, eyesight, direction of noise, thick fur, sharp canine teeth, ability to digest starchier foods, and marking their home territory with their scent. The Doolly Monkey lives in a humid forest and can be found sleeping or hanging around in tall trees. These forests have a tropical-humid climate. There are many non-living things in these areas such as waterfalls, mountains, and a few long rivers. Animals that I think would interact with this organism are the howler monkey, spider monkey, yellow-tailed woolly monkey, and many dog breeds because of its specific features. The Doolly Monkey is unlike other vertebrates having limited access to mates which creates almost a cooperative bond between the same species. With a cooperative bond, competition is rare but certainly possible. The diet of the Doolly Monkey consists of leaves, seeds, flowers, and various meats. This organism being closely related to the Woolly Spider Monkey which is already endangered, they have a risk for food competition. Many parts of the Woolly Spider Monkey are intended to reduce any kind of competition yet the Doolly Monkey lucked out with only having the top half. There are many ways this organism uses Territorial Imperative such as urine marking and aggression. Among the Doolly Monkey species, this is used to claim and protect one's territories. The social hierarchy in this organism is pretty traditional. You have the alpha animal which has dominance over all lower-ranking animals, second-ranked which dominance over all others besides the alpha, and the lowest rank which is often looked down on. Some pros and cons of being higher ranked are having a larger supply of food yet you are constantly the one who is fighting and all your actions are looked up to by many which can get stressful at times. Now some pros and cons of being lower ranked, are that you often get cut some slack and you aren't put in stressful situations yet you are given a limited amount of food and are looked down by as being weak and less powerful.
